Obwohl in erster Linie für Violinen gedacht, eignen sie sich hervorragend für Blockflöten. Die hier getroffene Auswahl berücksichtigt diejenigen Stücke, die für zwei Alt- oder für Alt- und Tenorblockflöte geeignet sind, da diese Instrumente den realen Abstand zum Bass wahren (8'-Register). Gelegentliche Oktavierungen wurden angemerkt. Für die 'Correnti' schreibt der Komponist ein schnelles Tempo vor, Die 'Arie' orientieren sich an Volksweisen bzw. ihnen nahestehenden Vorlagen. Zum Teil zitieren sie sie wörtlich, wie in der 'Aria sopra Questa bella sirena', die uns besser bekannt ist als 'Questa dolce sirena' für 5 Singstimmen von Giovanni Gastoldi (1591). In der 'Aria sopra il Caporal Sirnon' deuten die zahlreichen Textmarken auf eine vokale Ausführung, durch die sich der Komponist über das Lied vielleicht lustig machen wollte. Die 'Aria sopra la mia Pedrina' benutzt ein bis ins 18. Jhdt. hinein beliebtes Bass-Modell, einen sog. 'Tenore Italiano', dem u.a. francesco Turini (1589 -1656) in seiner Sonate '11 Corisino' huldigt und der in einer englischen Sammlung - 'The division flute' (ca. 1707) als 'Italian Ground ' auftaucht. The present dances are taken from an edition published in Venice in 1645. Although they are intended primarily for violins, they are also erninently suitable for recorders. The selection of pieces was made on the basis of their suitability for two alto recorders or for alto and tenor, because these instruments retain to real distance to the bass (8' register). The occasional octave transpositions are noted. For the 'Correnti' the composer specifies a fast ternpo. The 'Arie' are based on folk tunes or sources resernbling them. Some are quoted note-for-note, as in the 'Aria sopra Questa bella sirena', which is better known to us as 'Questa dolce sirena' for five voices by Giovanni Gastoldi (1591). In the 'Aria sopra il Caporal Sirnon' the many text fragments point to a vocal execution which may indicate that the composer was making fun of the song. The 'Aria sopra la mia Pedrina' makes use of a bass model which was popular well into the 18th century, a so-called 'Tenore Italiano'; among other composers, Francesco Turini (1589-1656) paid tribute to it in his sonata '11 Corisino', and it turns up as 'Italian Ground' in an English collection entitled 'The division flute' (c. 1707).
